CMDB Update - Julio
- General overview of CI structure
- Service Introduction & Service Catalog - negotiating what classes of services and attributes to track
- Business services
- Provider servies
- 40% done, will publish schema of what we'll be capturing in CMDB
- Similar conversation with application inventory
- applications will be taken out of QuickBase list and moved to CMDB
- TBD: the fields, attributes that we'll track for each CI
- Impact on Processes - Incident, Problem, Change
- initiated conversations with Mark Kovacs, Lou Tiseo
- will lead to service-oriented changes to processes; e.g., when a Change is made to a Provider Service, the CI is updated; every Incident recorded is mapped to a Service
- can you select multiple CIs in a single Change? yes
- Paul: define how all this works, how they map together - define relationships between CIs, Services
- SCCM for Windows servers will be federated with CMDB, provide a feed for 6-10 fields
- SNMP queries for Unix servers (in ITS data centers, supported by ITS) will also be federated in CMDB
- multiple input streams:
- App inventory
- SCCM, SNMP for servers
- Services list for Catalog
- Aperture - some fields
- How many Services are there? ~100 business services
- why so many? should we grow list slowly? have we done adequate analysis of the Other category?
- what is best practice advice on how many business services to track? will follow up with Mike Oas (Fruition) for feedback
- 65% of Incidents are Personal Productivity; 18%(?) are Other
- 4/27 target date for business service maps and reports for 4 services: DARCY, HPQC, ClassesV2, Service Management
- will define serivces, CIs, relationships, reports
- how Inc & Change processes are affected
- eGRC wants visibility for applications, users, services
